On September 23,2009, at 8 am, families of the victims of Pan Am 103 will be joining together with the American Libyan Freedom Alliance to protest Moammar Gaddafi's attendance at the UN General Assembly. All demonstrators will enter the UN area on 3rd Avenue at 47th Street. They then follow 47th Street to enter Dag-hammarskjold Plaza at 47th Street between 1st and 2nd where the protests will be taking place.

On December 21, 1988, Pan Am Flight 103 left Heathrow Airport in London en- route to New York City. A terrorist bomb placed on board exploded, bringing down the airliner, killing all 259 passengers on the plane and 11 townspeople of Lockerbie, Scotland.

In 2001, Libyan Intelligence agent Abdel Baset Ali Mohmed al-Megrahi was the only perpetrator convicted of this heinous crime after sitting trial in a Scottish court based in the Netherlands. Al-Megrahi served 8 years of his 27 year sentence in a jail in Glasgow, Scotland. Despite pleas from the US families and from the US Government, on August 20th, 2009, Scottish Minister of Justice Kenneth MacAskill ordered the release of al-Megrahi, ill with prostate cancer, on "compassionate grounds." Despite international requests for al-Megrahi's homecoming to be handled in a low-key manner, al-Megrahi arrived in Libya to a hero's welcome. In addition to the shameful pardon and homecoming, it has since been revealed that Al-Megrahi's release had more to do with politics and oil deals than with compassion.

President of the VPAF103 Frank Duggan says, "We are planning a massive demonstration in New York City when Gaddafi will arrive here…objecting to the presence of the Libyan leader on the US soil. I personally understand the motives of the US Government in trying to bring Libya into the community of peaceful nations, but that does not mean that we have to roll out the red carpet for him to strut on. He delights in rubbing salt into our wounds, and he has already misled the UN as to his intentions," said Duggan.

The American Libyan Freedom Alliance (ALFA) is a non-profit organization founded to promote democracy, human rights, justice, accountability and the rule of law in Libya.

The VPAF103 and the ALFA will stand together against tyranny, terrorism and the crimes against humanity that Gaddafi continues to commit.
