The Victims of Pan Am Flight 103 are devastated by the horrendous attack on the US Consulate in Benghazi, Libya that took the life of U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens; Sean Smith, a 10-year veteran of the State Department; and two former Navy SEALs, Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods. It is a sad development for all, and we express our deep condolences to their families, friends and colleagues.
Ambassador Chris Stevens was a courageous and caring man. We know that many Libyans considered him their friend and ally. As Secretary of State Clinton has said, "This was an attack by a small and savage group, not the people or government of Libya". Ambassador Stevens was a friend of the Victims of Pan Am Flight 103, and we appreciated his desire to work toward finding justice in the case. Overall, Ambassador Stevens was working for a better future with peace and friendship between the US and Libya, and we continue to support that future.
