Senator Robert J. Dole
Received the Keeping the Spirit Alive Award on December 21, 2013
Senator Robert J. Dole was a public servant who stood by the families of Pan Am 103 in our efforts to enhance aviation security and to obtain justice. His untiring efforts resulted in the passage of the Aviation Improvement Security Act of 1990. Many Pan Am 103 families recall with gratitude and affection his willingness to open his Senate office so that we could rest our weary feet, and discuss or coordinate strategy with his staff. When the bill appeared doomed on the Senate floor, the VPAF103 families watched in respect and admiration as he persuaded reluctant colleagues to remove obstacles to the bill’s passage.
