The R. Richard Newcomb Award was the first award presented by the VPAF103 families. It was given to Mr. Newcomb, Director of the Foreign Assets Control, U.S. Department of the Treasury, on September 17, 2005 for his advice, guidance, and compassion for the families, and for his role in the fight against terrorism.                 

The award later named the “Keeping the Spirit Alive Award.”
