Lawrence Mason

Received the Keeping the Spirit Alive Award on December 21, 2018

Lawrence Mason was a professor of visual communications and taught at Syracuse University for over 40 years. He is the co-author, with professor Melissa Chessher, and chief photographer of the book “Looking for Lockerbie.” ‘Doc’ Mason has received recognition for his outstanding work in his research for his book and long-standing interest and teaching on the subject of the terrorist bombing of Pan Am Flight 103. His interest in keeping the legacy of this act and of the victims alive through his work is most admirable. In the ensuing years, Mason helped to choose the students who earn the University’s prestigious Remembrance Scholarship and has been a part of the planning of the University’s commemorations. For Larry Mason, this tragedy is personal as eight of his students were among those lost on Pan Am 103.
