Chancellor Kent D. Syvereud
Received the Keeping the Spirit Alive Award on October 24, 2020
Syracuse University’s Chancellor Kent Syverud has done more than just talk the talk; he has walked the walked. He has been committed to remembering not only the 35 Syracuse students who were lost on December 21, 1988, but all 270 victims lost that tragic night. Our loved ones and their memories were treated with love, kindness, and respect. One of the ways he has done this is by strengthening the bond between Lockerbie and Syracuse. At our 30th Anniversary Memorial Service in Arlington, Chancellor Syverud spoke on the importance of honoring the victims and their families through Lockerbie and Remembrance Scholars, but also through the Pan Am Flight 103/Lockerbie Air Disaster Archives. As he stated in his speech, “The legacy of 270 people will shine through this night and in the decades ahead. We will honor their legacy based on hope, decency and grace.”
