Senator Frank R. Lautenberg
Received the Keeping the Spirit Alive Award on November 20, 2008
Frank “Uncle Frank” Lautenberg sent his aide to the first meeting the families had with Senator Bill Bradley. He was at our 103rd Day Rally in Lafayette Park, and with his staff he continuously supported our efforts in D.C. Lautenberg co-chaired the Bush commission on Aviation Security and Terrorism (1989-1990), wrote and introduced the Aviation Security Improvement Act, which became law in 1990. He added the rider to the Kosovo Funding Bill which allowed the Office of Victims of Crimes to provide services to the families during the first Pan Am 103 trial in 2001. He always had M&Ms in his office for hungry visitors.
