Ambassador Chris Stevens
Received the Keeping the Spirit Alive Award on December 21, 2012
Ambassador Christopher Stevens spent part of 2012 in Benghazi, and served in Tripoli prior to that. Stevens was sent to Libya to liaise with the Libyan Transitional National Council from April-November 2011. Ambassador Stevens met with the families of the Victims of Pan Am Flight 103 by phone on several occasions at our request and he was the keynote speaker at the VPAF annual memorial in Arlington Cemetery in December 2011. He was forthright in answering our questions and encouraged our communication with him. Ambassador Stevens was a strong and persistent advocate for the families of those killed in the terrorist bombing of Pan Am 103. Ambassador Stevens was killed when the U.S. Special Mission in Benghazi, Libya, was attacked by members of Ansar al-Sharia on September 11, 2012.
