Families Applaud Congressional Passage of FY08 State, Foreign Operations and Related Programs Appropriation Bill

Language prohibits U.S. foreign assistance to Libya until justice is fulfilled to American victims

Statement of Kara Weipz, President of Victims of Pan Am Flight 103:

“Today, the Victims of Pan Am Flight 103 applaud Congress for adopting the FY08 State, Foreign Operations and Related Programs Appropriations bill.” The bill prohibits spending on U.S. foreign assistance to Libya until Libya honors commitments it made to the victims of Pan Am 103. It also requires the State Department to report to Congress every six months its efforts to bring justice to the victims.

The 19th Remembrance Ceremony is scheduled for this Friday, Dec 21st at the Cairn at Arlington National Cemetery. The ceremony will begin at 1:30pm. Secretary Michael Chertoff, Secretary of Homeland Security, will be the keynote speaker. The Army band, a piper and the choir from the United Methodist Church will perform.

Senators Urge Libya To Pay Victims’ Families Of Libyan Terrorism

Lautenberg Leads Delegation to Ensure Justice for Victims of Libyan Terror

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, a coalition of eight Senators, led by Senator Frank R. Lautenberg (D-NJ), sent a letter to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice asking her to use an upcoming diplomatic visit to urge Libya to fulfill its obligations to American victims of Libyan terrorism. Lautenberg was joined by Robert Menendez (D-NJ), Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Hillary Clinton (D-NY), Patrick Leahy (D-VT), Barbara Mikulski (D-MD), Norm Coleman (R-MN) and Chris Dodd (D-CT).
